Pierre Bey, studied medicine in Nancy where he specialized in radiation oncology. He became professor of oncology in 1980 and, as head of the radiotherapy department in the regional cancer center in Nancy, he was involved in development of conformal radiation therapy, especially in prostate cancer and stereotactic radiosurgery, radiation therapy in children. He was director of the regional cancer center in Nancy from 1991 up to 2001. Since 2002, he has been director of the hospital of Institut Curie in Paris. The hospital is leading the new project of protontherapy for France in Orsay, near Paris. Pierre Bey is also president of the French national association of professors in oncology (since 2001).
