Mickaël Tanter, Ph.D., is a research professor of the French Institute for Medical Research (INSERM). He is currently heading the team “Wave Physics for Medicine” at the Laboratoire Ondes et Acoustique, ESPCI, Paris, France. He received a Diplôme d’Ingénieur (High Engineering Degree) from Ecole Supérieure d’Electricité in 1994 and a Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies (M.S. Degree) from Paris VII University in Physics and Acoustics. He was awarded in 1999 a Ph.D. degree from Paris VII University in Applied Physics. From 2000 to 2005, he was a research associate professor of CNRS at the Laboratoire Ondes et Acoustique at E.S.P.C.I. in Paris and joined the French Institute for Medical Research (INSERM) as a research professor in 2006.
His main activities are centered around the development of new medical imaging and therapy techniques. His current research interests are on a wide range of topics: ultrasonic therapy and echographic imaging of the brain, elasticity imaging of organs using ultrafast scanners, compact lithotripters,... Mickael Tanter is the recipient of 8 patents in the field of ultrasound imaging. He is the author of more than 50 technical peer reviewed papers, and co-founder of the start-up company Supersonic Imagine in the field of ultrasonic medical imaging. He is regularly invited to give lectures at international scientific meetings in the field of medical ultrasound. He is also a member of the Technical Program Committee of IEEE Ultrasonics and member of the Experts Commission (Section 60) of University Paris VII.
